Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's security is being tightened. 30 hi-tech cameras are being installed near CM Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat, which will keep a close watch for 24 hours. To prevent police surveillance lapses, PIDS or 'Perimeter Intrusion Detection System' with cameras are being installed in the entire area centered around the Chief Minister's residence. In that electronic surveillance system, concrete security arrangements are being made from the point of view of 30 state-of-the-art cameras.
A few months ago, a young man stood at the Chief Minister's residence all night with an iron rod in his hand. He was arrested after he went into hiding overnight, but the incident raised questions about the chief minister's security. It is not yet known for what purpose the young man came there. However, monitoring was found to be lacking.
Then the state government decided to introduce PIDS. This state-of-the-art surveillance system is the first of its kind in Bengal. State police officials say the PIDS is being used in high-security areas in Delhi, Mumbai. According to the police, it is an electronic device equipped with cameras and sensors. If someone gets in the grip of its sensor, an alert will be sent to the control room connected to the system. According to state police sources, the Directorate of Security, responsible for the Chief Minister's security, and the Kolkata Police are planning to jointly launch the security technology at a cost of about Rs 56 crore. It will have a separate control room.
According to the police, no one can escape from the sight of that camera. Even if it escapes the human eye, it will be caught by the machine's eye. According to sources, PIDs are typically deployed as part of an overall security system. When someone enters the area covered by the device, the sensors connected to it are activated and alert everyone affected. Police patrolling is not always possible in many streets around the Chief Minister's residence. This arrangement is to ensure that no guard can enter the area unnoticed while avoiding police surveillance.
